The pandemic will not have stopped Nicolas Godbout, owner of Impôts Ici !, an accounting firm that has been established in Montreal for almost 20 years. Last January, the tax expert launched Effisca, a tax firm specializing in Canadian, American and international taxation. “I wanted to offer the same expertise as large offices, but with a more human approach”, says Mr. Godbout.
It was therefore surrounded by talented tax experts that he decided to open a new office located at 285 Mont-Royal Avenue E, in the heart of the Plateau, in Montreal. Even though this is not his first try, he admits the situation was far from ideal. “We were all set to open in January, but with the restrictions announced by the government, we had to wait. I have often wondered whether it had not been a mistake to open a physical office with the sanitary measures in force”, says Nicolas Godbout. “The employees got used to working from home. After the pandemic, many will continue to telework, for the flexibility that this offers them”, he adds.
An experienced team
For Olivier Custeau, it is without regret that he left a prestigious position in a large firm to join Effisca. “I immediately felt that I would like it better in a smaller team that puts people and professionalism at the heart of its priorities”, said Olivier Custeau, director of Canadian and US taxation at Effisca.
